I will now compare two front covers of a college magazine, this will inspire with mine and also pick up on things that I find don't look right on a college magazine. The two magazines I will compare are East Riding college magazine called 'Name?' and Lewisham college magazine which is call the 'The LC'.
Ill start with the Lewisham magazine 'The LC.' The language of the front cover is very precise to that off a professional magazine. The Head mast is in the top left hand corner, so its the first thing you see and recognise. It stands out as its in white and it doest take over the picture or the subtitles. This is good because people reading he magazine will instantly recognise it straight away. The image of the magazine is of a black person dressed in football kit, this promotes the collage for sport as well as education. And the sub heading is about the 'Dallas Cup' so the picture relates to the story inside the magazine. Also the magazine is from a collage in London where there is many cultures and ethnicity's, so using a black person on the front covers shows that multi-culture race and shows their not biased towards whites. The font of the head mast and the subheadings is very simple, however I personally think its too plain for the cover. However the font of the head mast and subheadings matches the colour of the college logo and the colours in the boys football kit. This makes the magazine look more professional as there isn't a wide range of colours going on which often makes magazines look tacky, cheap and very amature.
The audience of the magazine is the students and maybe teachers of the Lewis Ham college, so many people around the surrounding area may read the magazine as well if there interest in joining the college soon. The magazine is also aimed at younger students like ages 16 - 20. Also its aimed at males and females. The institution of the magazine is people who work in The Lewis Ham college as they make for other students as well.
The ideology of the magazine is to promote education and sport at the college. Not only that its about achievement, college life and respect for others at the college. This will be very similar to my college magazine, my magazine will represent achievement and respect for other students.
The representation of the magazine shows the person to be a very serious dedicated football player. He's not smiling and he has eye contact with the audience this shows his focus and determination. This represents the collage to be the same, that you will gain focus and determination. He is also shown with a football and a clean kit so its obvious he is staged for the photograph. This shows the collage is proud of his achievements and makes the readers of the magazine think that could be me one time. They also show his captain badge round his arm to show off his success at football.
Overall I think this is a very good front cover of a college magazine, it looks very professional and the photo is very suitable for the magazine as it promotes success and determination. However the font isn't that good it looks very cheap apart from that its very good. The colours all go well together and the whole concept of the front cover shows what the magazine stands for. I will now write about the other college magazine call 'Name?'
The next college magazine is called 'Name?' and its for the east riding college. The language of the east riding college i personally think isn't as good as the Lewis Ham college magazine. This is simply because it has no message behind it and its very bland. The head mast is centered at the top of the magazine, this is quite effective for a front cover of a mag zine as it stands out and its at the top so its the first thing you see. The image however I think doest sell the college very well, as its a picture of the college lit up on the night. Although this does make the college look very modern and expensive as its light up in friendly bight colours that appeal to younger audiences however, nobody goes to college that often on the night so not many people will see the college on the night also it only shows a small part of the college with no students so people don't really know what the college stands for or what its about. At the bottom of the front cover it has a small part of text which describes the courses at East Riding college. This is good for people who doesn't attend that college so if their interested in joining they can read it to find out details. However all the text and font on the front cover is the same. This makes it very plain and simple and makes it look like the makers of the magazine haven't put much effort into the magazine. The fact that the magazine is also called 'name' shows that they don't put much effort into the magazine.
Similarly to the Lewis Ham Magazine the audience will be students of the college. However I think the students may be a wider range of audiences simply because the front cover is very sophisticated and simple and because it has no pictures of 'Young' students on the front shows that it may be for older students as well as younger ones. I reckon the target audience is for 16-29 year old. The institution of the magazine is the same as the Lewish Ham magazine. Its made by students or staff of the college for other students and possible new students. This is simply because they have more input than an outsider of the college.
The ideology of the magazine is too sell the college, respect for the others and education. Much like the Lewish Ham magazine. However I think the Lewish Ham sells education and success better by the front cover partially due to the image used.
I don't think the representing on this magazine is as good as the Lewish Ham magazine, the image only shows the college to be modern and new. I don't think it really represents education or success as its only a picture of the building. Overall I think the Lewish Ham magazine is a lot more successfully as it shows more about the college and what it stands for. The 'Name?' magazine is very bland and simple but it looks more professional to the Lewish Ham magazine because there is less going. I personally think the Lewish Ham is the best front cover overall and it will help me with my front cover to my magazine more than the East riding of Yorkshire magazine.
